This week we complete the short science fiction story “The Genocide Mosquito,” before returning to Book II and completing our focus on Science and Religion.
CONSIDERATION #116 – “The Genocide Mosquito” (Part Two)
Scientists and researchers continued to improve the DMs until they became the paradigm of sophisticated Artificial Intelligence technology. By the production of the AIDM-3 virtually any medical test, including DNA testing, was possible without anyone knowing it had ever taken place. In addition, many “treatments” could be administered directly upon the determination of the test, which was essentially instantaneous. The first “Genocide Mosquito” was developed in 2045 by the government of Iran.

The Genocide Mosquito ran a DNA test on the blood of the target; if genetic heredity was determined to be within the “preset range” it injected a toxic virus into the target. Although the virus could be spread like other viruses, its efficiency killed most targets within 24 hours; the violent physical reaction from the infection kept most other people away and those infected didn’t travel far after being infected. This helped to localize attacks resulting in large “epidemic outbreaks” as opposed to a world-wide pandemic.
Although banned by the International Artificial Intelligence Protocol Guidelines of 2040 prohibiting the use of AI for “genocidal purposes,” Iran developed the first AI genocidal weapon of mass destruction modeled on the AIDM-3 platform. Designed to eliminate the state of Israel and Global Zionism, the Ayatollah released a wave of 100 million “genocide mosquitos” into the center of Jerusalem, eventually killing 85% of the Jewish population and ending the state of Israel.
However, there was also unintended consequences. Because the preset genetic range was set extremely low, many “non-Israelis” who did not consider themselves “Jews” had enough “Jewish DNA” to be considered a target by the Genocide Mosquitos; ultimately killing millions of Muslims as well.

Eventually, there was a plethora of genocidal mosquitos programed to kill the ethnic group of choice. You never knew when a new “genocidal epidemic” might break out; no-one was safe. Smaller ethnic groups, such as Jews, were wiped out almost immediately. However, major ethnic groups tended to suffer indiscriminate outbreaks based on location. Now, virtually everyone is at risk of being bitten by a digital mosquito specifically designed to kill “someone like them.”
The only reason everyone isn’t dead is because fortunately the DMs are more like bees than mosquitos in one key aspect; once they inject someone, they are empty. They only have one sting before they die. However, genocide mosquitos, and the infections spread by them, are still responsible for killing almost 30% of the remaining 50% of the population.

As the human population decreases our reliance on AI machines increases. More and more people are afraid of reproducing because the child would inherit even more DNA diversity, making them even more susceptible to Genocide Mosquitos. However, on the bright side, soon these intelligent machines will replace us, and there won’t be anyone left for the Genocide Mosquito to bite!
