“Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing…”
– Stephen Hawking
PREFACE
Happy Valentine’s Day Everybody!
“You can't blame gravity for falling in love.”
– Albert Einstein
I am purposely taking General Relativity Theory slowly, in small chunks, because it can be incredibly difficult to grasp in its totality.
“Physical objects ‘sink’ into ‘space-time’ creating ‘dimples’ or ‘curvatures’ in space-time that result in what we call gravity.”
Prior to Einstein, gravity was “thought of” as some kind of “pulling force” in the universe. Einstein discovers that gravity is not a “pulling” force, but more of a “stretching” force that bends and warps the shape and experience of “space-time.” Physical objects “sink” into “space-time” creating “dimples” or “curvatures” in the “space-time continuum” that result in what we call gravity. Smaller objects “fall into” these dimples and curvatures, and/or create separate curvatures of their own if they have enough mass, or energy.
“Gravity is responsible for generating motion in the universe.”
The result of all these “dimples” or “curvatures” in space-time is gravity; all physical objects are affected by these dimples and curvatures in space-time. Gravity is responsible for generating motion in the universe. Therefore, causing everything in the universe to be in constant motion, such as the earth revolving around the sun and the moon revolving around the earth.
CONSIDERATION #70 – Bending & Warping “Space-Time”
(continued from previous newsletter)
An object with little mass, such as a marble, would circle almost immediately to the middle of the fabric and fall into the large dimple created by the bowling ball. The “gravity” of the bowling ball is so strong the marble cannot overpower, or balance, it with its own mass. It doesn’t have enough mass “of its own” to sink “deep” enough into space-time so that it can overpower the “slope” caused by the gravity of the bowling ball. Its own gravitational trench is not deep enough to keep it from “rolling downhill” into the center with the bowling ball.
“…the [ten pound shot-put] would eventually also stretch the fabric enough to create its own indentation in the fabric, allowing its own indentation in space-time…”
However, a more massive object, such as a ten-pound shot-put, would follow the slope and start circling toward the bowling ball, but would eventually also stretch the fabric enough to create its own indentation in the fabric, allowing its own indentation in space-time to keep it from falling further down the slope – balanced between its gravitational path and the slope of the bowling ball’s gravitational influence, it would orbit the bowling ball “forever.”
“Some objects would become overwhelmed by this ‘pit of gravity’ and ‘fall into’ the ‘space-time valley’ created by the bowling ball.”
Newton argued that the bowling ball somehow pulled the other objects to it. Einstein argued that the bowling ball stretched and altered the fabric of space-time, thereby causing other “smaller” objects to naturally fall into the “valley” of space-time it had created “through its own effect on gravity.” Some objects would become overwhelmed by this “pit of gravity” and “fall into” the “space-time valley” created by the bowling ball. Some objects would have enough mass, or energy, to create their own curvatures in space-time allowing them to orbit the bowling ball by generating their own gravitational trench. Some objects would have so much mass (energy) and/or distance that they would not be affected at all by the dimple created by the bowling ball.
So, how does this apply to something practical, like why the moon revolves around the earth?
POSTSCRIPT
Essentially, Einstein changes the paradigm for how the universe, or reality, works. Time and space are not two separate constants; they are a connected symbiotic unity manifested through maintaining a constant balance of each other. Therefore, space and time are relative factors regarding the reality of the universe. Gravity was the result of how physical objects affected the “fabric” of space-time. In addition, when gravity changes the shape of space it also changes the experience of time.
“Gravity was the result of how physical objects affected the ‘fabric’ of space-time.”
Three dimensions of space, a dimension called time, and an effect, or force, called gravity all worked together in creating a physical universe in constant motion. A quantum universe that renders a completely new and unique perception of Reality.
Next week we will consider how gravity is a lot like the “log ride” at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California…

• Special Edition Podcast:"What’s This All About?" – Excerpt: (“Book II, The Power of Three: Understanding Reality Through Science & Religion, considers both the scientific and religious interpretations of Reality. The scientific consideration of empirical reality continues from Descartes to the next paradigm shift: Albert Einstein’s Theories of Relativity and the birth of Quantum Mechanics. The religious consideration of rational reality follows the Biblical Narrative which establishes an “empirical reality” based on “law” and “representative government” in the Old Testament to a “rational reality” based on a transcendence from following the “the law” to embracing “the spirit of the law” out of love and compassion for each other in the New Testament.
The essential consideration of Book II focusses on Descartes’ separation of Reality into Rational Reality and Empirical Reality which eventually evolves into a confrontation over “ultimate truth” between science and religion. After Descartes, Religion becomes the expression of Rational Reality and Science becomes the expression of Empirical Reality. In the “modern” world human beings become fractured with a choice over their empirical and rational nature. Book II establishes both arguments regarding the ultimate truth about Reality…” )
•Reality by a Thread Discussion Thread: Previewing Book V – Excerpt: Potential Being and Total Awareness (“Science became the focus for investigating the nature and laws of the “physical being” generated from that “first cause.” Religion became the focus for investigating the nature and laws of “spiritual” or “rational” being, starting with the nature of that “first cause.” However, both understood and acknowledged that the “first cause” of physical being was generated from a “higher” level of “Being” that is not empirical, or physical. A Non-Empirical Dimension Representing a Pure “Rational” State of Being. Plato’s “Realm of Forms,” Descartes’ “Rational Mind,” Jesus’ “Kingdom of Heaven,” “a priori knowledge,” the “Tao” of Lao Tzu, or the Buddhist state of “Nirvana”: all fingers pointing to the same “rational” moon.
Thus, the first duality paradox: “Physical Being is manifested from, or through, Non-Physical Being,” or “Empirical Reality is manifested from, or through, Rational Reality…”)
