Hope everyone celebrating Hanukkah and Christmas had a wonderful holiday! I have been previewing Book VI, “The Rational Being,” with Reality by a Thread subscribers in a consideration regarding the nature of Artificial Intelligence. It inspired me to write a science fiction short story that I shared with them a few weeks ago. I have decided to share it with everybody as a two-part Special End of the Year Holiday Edition newsletter.

CONSIDERATION #115 – “THE GENOCIDE MOSQUITO” (Part One)

After the COVID Pandemic of 2019, government leaders began to reconsider their policies regarding vaccination. In order to successfully “control” the next pandemic they would need more authority to manage vaccine distribution, maximize vaccine access, and mandate the vaccination of individual citizens; otherwise, we might not be so “lucky” next time.
Next time came with the KRONDAK Pandemic of 2032 after a man-made virus designed to attack the algae in swimming pools, ponds, and “green” self-sustaining plumbing systems “crossed over” and infected mosquitos, leading to a swift and sudden outbreak of a new man-made pandemic. The problem was that algae and human beings were both multicellular organisms. At some point, the virus determined that human cells and algae cells were essentially the “same” cells and began devouring them voraciously.

The time it took for the KRONDAK virus to completely consume you from the inside-out was about ten days. However, most people succumbed to death after about three to five days of unrelenting torture and suffering; by day ten, there was nothing left of them at all; having been completely eaten out of existence. Just a small green pool of algae excrement. The panic was inconceivable.
Government control over the distribution and access to a new mandated vaccine was put into effect immediately. However, ineffective distribution chains, a massive uptick in violent crime, and a third of the population who refused to “voluntarily” be vaccinated despite any threat or ultimatum, led to the 2033 Universal Declaration of Life.
The Universal Declaration of Life (UDL) established that the essential role of any government was to preserve the lives of its citizens. Therefore, in extreme emergencies government agencies had an obligation and power to do this. The key focus in “this emergency” was to basically eliminate supply chain problems, make the vaccine accessible to people without the necessity of leaving their residence, and ensure 100% participation: voluntarily or not. Right now! The solution was the AIDM-1.

Researchers realized that the mosquitos carrying the KRONDAK virus, and other viruses, didn’t have any distribution chain challenges, accessibility issues, or permission problems. They effectively, efficiently, and ruthlessly disseminated whatever they wanted, wherever they wanted, to whoever they wanted. Governments needed one of these! This was the impetus behind the development of the first Artificially Intelligent Digital Mosquito, or AIDM-1.
The original AIDM-1 was a rather simple concept based on how a mosquito works. A mosquito locates a target through its ability to detect carbon dioxide. Once a target is identified the mosquito establishes the best spot on their body for its invasive attack to be most effective. The mosquito then pierces the victim’s skin with its proboscis, which is like an organic hypodermic needle, and then does two things; anesthetizes the area so you don’t feel what is happening and sucks the blood directly from your vein. Once finished it flies away unnoticed; except for a delayed reaction experienced later as an itch, long after the mosquito has left. Otherwise, you would never even know it happened!

The AIDM-1 was essentially a digital mosquito with some added extras. After being dropped from a plane or helicopter the AIDMs become miniscule drones in search of “human carbon dioxide.” Once located, the Digital Mosquito (DM) begins to do its work. Its “head” contains the “proboscis,” which can not only suck the blood out of its target, but also “inject” a vaccine into its target “if necessary.” The “head” of the DM also contains a microchip that can run a simple blood-test to determine if you have already been vaccinated. The “body” of the DM serves as a reservoir tank for the vaccine. In addition, the anesthesia and anti-blood clotting serum used by the DM leaves no after effects at all: no itch or bump. It’s almost impossible to know you have even been bitten!

By the time the first AIDMs were “released” almost 40% of the world’s population had succumbed to KRONDAK. However, the new Digital Mosquitos were quite effective. Within two weeks almost 100% of the remaining citizens of all countries had been vaccinated, and the mortality rate finally began to drop. By the end of the Pandemic almost 50% of all human beings on earth had died from KRONDAK. The remaining survivors owed their lives to the new Digital Mosquitos.
